The OFM toolbox
The practical tool stack for running a creator business: links, scheduling, production, protection, and traffic.
Link in bio
Beacons
Creator-friendly link page with adult-tolerant policies and analytics. The free tier is enough to start. The reason creators pick it over the default: pages that point at an 18+ platform do not tend to disappear overnight.
AllMyLinks
No frills, no store, rarely breaks — which is the point. Widely accepted on Reddit, where some subreddits block other link hosts outright.
Linktree
The default everywhere else, and the strictest of the three on adult content. Read the current terms before you build a whole funnel on it; removals do happen.
Scheduling and planning
Buffer / Later
Scheduling for the SFW social funnels (X, Instagram, TikTok). Later does the same job with a stronger visual planner. Either beats posting by hand at 2am; neither will save a bad posting plan — that part is in our content calendar guide.
Notion
Content calendar, shot lists and persona docs in one place. Free for a single person. Its real value is that a stand-in can pick up your account without a handover call.
Google Sheets
Still the best free revenue and PPV tracker there is. One row per week, revenue split by subs, tips and messages — that alone shows you where the money actually comes from. To model it before you track it, use our earnings calculator.
Content production
CapCut
Free short-form editing for promo clips, and what most of the creator economy already runs on. Captions and trending audio without a subscription.
Canva
Thumbnails, tip menus and story graphics. The free tier covers everything a creator page needs; the paid one mostly buys you background removal and brand kits.
A ring light + phone tripod
The highest ROI hardware under $100. Lighting improves a photo more than any camera upgrade at this price, and a tripod is what makes hands-free video possible at all. Buy once, from anywhere — there is no brand here worth paying extra for.
Protection and privacy
Watermarking (built into most editors)
A visible handle in a corner will not stop a determined leaker, but it does make casual reposts traceable and it keeps your name attached when content travels. CapCut and Canva both do it for free. To find content that has already leaked, use our leak check.
Reverse image search (Google Lens / TinEye)
Google Lens and TinEye both find where an image of yours has been reposted. Free, and worth running monthly on your two or three most-shared images.
A separate work phone number / email
The cheapest privacy measure that exists. A second number and a dedicated email keep your legal name off every platform signup and every fan interaction. Do this before you post anything, not after something goes wrong.
Traffic
Still the largest source of free, intent-driven traffic in this business, and the one platform where a new creator can start from zero. Which subreddits accept what is the whole game — our subreddit directory lists the rules per community.
X (Twitter)
The only major platform that permits adult content outright, which makes it the safest place to post previews. Slow to build, and it compounds — the accounts that work have posted for months, not weeks. Tactics in how to get more subscribers.
TikTok / Instagram
Enormous reach, zero tolerance: strictly SFW, no links to an 18+ page in the caption. Treat them as the top of the funnel that hands off to your link in bio, and expect to lose accounts occasionally. Pick the angle first — see the niche directory.
We are not affiliated with any tool listed and nothing here is sponsored. For the calculators we built ourselves, see the commission calculator and the rest of the Free Stuff menu.
What you need on day one, and what can wait
The list above is the full stack, which is not the same as the starting stack. Most creators lose weeks to tool selection that would have been better spent producing, so it is worth being blunt about the order.
| Stage | What you actually need | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| Week one | A link page, a phone, a window with good light, and somewhere to write down what you post | Nothing |
| Once posting is steady | A tripod and a ring light, a free editor, and a spreadsheet tracking revenue per fan | Under $100 once |
| Once revenue is regular | Scheduling for the social funnels, a proper content calendar, watermarking in your edit step | Free to about $20 a month |
| Once it is a business | A separate work number and email, a reverse-image-search habit, and real bookkeeping | Small, and overdue by the time you notice |
The pattern is that the highest-return items are cheap and boring: light, a tripod, and a habit of writing down what happened. The things creators buy first are usually cameras and subscriptions.
What not to buy
A better camera
Phone cameras have been good enough for years. Lighting is what separates a good image from a bad one, and it costs a fraction of a lens.
Follower or engagement services
Bought followers do not buy anything, they distort the only metrics you could otherwise learn from, and platforms increasingly notice. There is no version of this that ends well.
All-in-one “OF automation” suites
Most are a scheduler and a mass-message button with a large monthly fee. Anything that automates the inbox wholesale is also the fastest way to make an account feel like a bot.
A course before you have posted
Almost everything sold in the beginner-course tier is available free, including on this site. Buy the shortcut once you know which specific thing you are stuck on.
The one place spending genuinely buys time back is the inbox, because it is the largest revenue line and the hardest to sustain alone. Whether that is worth a commission is arithmetic rather than opinion — the chatter cost calculator compares hiring against a revenue share on your own numbers, and the commission calculator shows what growth either would need to pay for itself.
Common questions
A phone, a window with decent light, a link page and somewhere to write down what you posted. Everything else on this page is an optimisation, and buying it first is the most common way to spend a month not producing.
